Takeoff – Chicago O'Hare to LAX – 2010

Takeoff (ORD to LAX) 2010

Lifting off from Chicago's O'Hare International, "the world's busiest airport," places you at the center of an urban landscape that is both strange and familiar. Like the act of flying itself, we take many things for granted: the highway cloverleafs, and the grid of streetlights, the network of human enterprise reaching out to the horizon. From above, these structures can appear either monumental or insignificant, but our impact on the environment – both good and bad, beautiful and monstrous – cannot be ignored.
