Spectral Highways opens a window onto the process used to create infrared photographs through the windshield of a moving vehicle. The film presents stop motion animations made from thousands of still images captured while driving. From these, only a dozen or so were selected to make exhibition prints for the series Flirting with Disaster.

The film illustrates how original RAW digital exposures are converted to black & white fine art prints and movies. Also the science behind making multispectral exposures in-camera using filters in front of the lens to record specific bandwidths and colors from both infrared and visual spectra, merging new and old image processes to devise new ways of seeing.

The film premiered at the Magic and Realism exhibition at the Museum of Art & History in Lancaster, California. It is dedicated to Angela McCluskey, whose inimitable voice saturates the soundtrack.
