The next couple of weeks are kinda crazy, so buckle up my friends, and let’s get started!
Summer is off to a colorful start this Saturday with the Los Angeles Art Association’s always-entertaining Out There exhibition celebrating West Hollywood Pride Month at Gallery 825. Juried by Cliff Benjamin of Western Project, the show opens June 22, 6-9pm (thru June 28).
Then the following weekend, things really heat up… 🔥

Dead Tree, Nests & Thermal Plants – Salton Sea, California – 2014Dead Tree, Nests & Thermal Plants – Salton Sea, California – 2014Infrared Exposure – First printed: 2015

Captured on assignment, this dark, infrared exposure was too edgy for the glossy magazine, but the
color version ran full-bleed, double-boxcar.

The Salton Sea was formed by accident during the construction of irrigation canals for the Colorado River. The shallow lake has become more saline than the ocean, and contaminated by natural toxins and agricultural runoff. As it dries up, particulate pollution from talc-fine dust threatens the health of millions from Palm Springs to Los Angeles.

Remarkably, the tainted environment supports an large concentration of wildlife, forming an essential layover for migrating birds on the Pacific Flyway. Here a dead tree provides habitat for cormorants, and in the background, industrial forms spewing “smoke” are in fact steaming thermal-plants providing some of the cleanest energy available.

Dead Tree, Nests & Thermal Plants – Infrared Exposure - Salton Sea, CA - on view in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Mono-Kromatik, juried by Sandrine Hermand-Grisel, opens Friday, June 28 at the Praxis Photographic Arts Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota (thru July 22).
On Saturday, June 29, two fantastic openings. Blind Couriercurated by Hilary Baker and Lauren Kasmer, features twelve of my pinhole images at the Brand Library & Art Center in Glendale, California (thru August 23). And I’m debuting a mixed media piece (wait, what!?) in The Vision Board curated by Elizabeth Valdez at Kopeikin Gallery in Culver City. With both shows opening Saturday 6-9pm, I’ll be at the Brand from 6-7pm, then jet over to Kopeikin 8-9pm. How crazy is that?
Evidently, not crazy enough, because the following night is the Los Angeles Press Club's 61st Annual Southern California Journalism Awards gala at the Biltmore Hotel in Downtown LA. I’m a finalist for four awards, including Photojournalist of the Year. Shana Nys Dambrot is nominated three times as well. Should be a helluva night! 💥

If you have not yet seen Does Not Reproduce, Von Lintel Gallery’s inaugural show at their beautiful new space in the Bendix Building, that is something you absolutely must see in person (thru July 20).

And last but not least, I'm delighted to announce that my work is now available at Truth & Beauty Gallery in Vancouver, British Columbia. As a Canadian, that makes me very happy. Go Canada! 🇨🇦

I know. My head is spinning too. So I’ll leave it at that. Complete info on all my exhibitions/events is always available here
