It’s been one of those months—truly one of those years—when the personal, artistic, and political braid together in unexpectedly resonant ways. My latest Los Angeles Press Club award for Best Feature Photo landed last Sunday as an affirmation that photographs can simultaneously operate in the realms of art and reportage. No Pasar was captured during my 2024 SACO artist residency and first emerged in this must-read High & Dry story on PBS SoCal.
Today, the image stretches across a billboard in Antofagasta, Chile, one of the SACO Bienal de Arte Contemporáneo interventions into public spaces that sparked a wave of international attention. But the real story No Pasar keeps telling is a stark, shimmering reminder that the Atacama Desert's singular salt lagoons—ancient, fragile, irreplaceable—are imperiled by the world’s accelerating appetite for lithium. Together, we can save them.

Last week, my birthday folded into a small constellation of echoes and continuities. The short film Sea of Change screened at the Enjambre Film Festival in Buenos Aires, Argentina, mirroring its appearance on the same date last year at Magazzini Fotografici in Naples, Italy. The movie illustrates how events in distant, remote locations, impact all of us, everywhere.
Meanwhile, new multispectral images in Occhi sulla Città are on view at the Museo della Moda Napoli thru Dec 31. These parallel presences—moving image and still photography, South America and Southern Italy—present interwoven narratives about our interactions with the natural world, and the choices that lie ahead.

NEXT YEAR, my work re-enters the commercial-curatorial ecology of Intersect Palm Springs, where Von Lintel Gallery will present multispectral photographs from the series Chromatopia. Produced in-camera using vintage filters to collapse infrared and visible light into a single frame, these images conjure up the surreal while remaining stubbornly, insistently real.
Somewhat unexpectedly, the work has taken on a new, public-facing life of its own, circulating widely across news coverage and print advertising for the fair. Should you find yourself in the desert, please join us Feb 12–16, as the work continues its quiet negotiation between spectacle, perception, and the limits of the visible. 🌴
