A desert blacktop curves towards the distant horizon beneath a dramatic sky.

FLIRTING WITH DISASTER

The road is a central feature of arid lands, both in terms of how we see the desert and how highways shape the physical existence of remote desert communities. Capturing these images from a moving vehicle adds an element of chance to the exposures, with longer shutter speeds used to blur foreground elements and convey a sense of forward movement. Infrared photography is employed to accentuate the stark geometries of these landscapes and monumental cloud formations.
